Spectator

Spectator

I heard that romance was dead once
so I spent the evening outside
I sat by the bars and the restaurants
and I watched all the people inside

I watched chairs be pulled by gentlemen
I watched women tuck hair behind ears
I watched teethy smiles reflect
the mans eyes, and all of his fears

I saw effort be made, that effort needn’t be
but I guess that’s what we do to impress,
I saw pinky fingers in the sky
I saw children in their eyes
I saw a women dressed in her best dress

Everything I saw was evidence
that I’d gathered through my watch
and it only confirmed to me
that romance is neither dead nor lost.

I heard that romance was dead once
so I spent the evening outside
and it only confirmed to me
romance is not dead, but alive.

Okay, so I altered the last line a little to make it fit into the stanza.
Sorry, Chariot ...
I'd say it's all relative and a matter of perspective.
For me, romance is a lifeless corpse, decomposing in a shallow, unmarked grave.
I've no use for it whatsoever.
Sex, that's great. What red-blooded male doesn't enjoy a good romp in the sheets?
But I have absolutely NO use for love or romance.
Not anymore.
Nicely penned, sir!

Hello Dean,

haha not an issue, interesting to see your version. I’m very sorry to hear your feelings on love/romance. I hope your feelings towards romance doesn’t have pain attached to it. Although, sadly, most of us have felt heartache at the hand of love.

thank you for your comment, kind sir.

Love is simply lust with a more expensive price tag attached.
Take care, Christopher, and you're welcome.

Love is lust with a more expensive price tag?? I'm sorry you feel that way Dean. It would make a great title for a poem though.
