Stars Of Glass
If all the stars were made of glass
And the moon cut out from paper,
Just where would all our wishes go
If the stars could grant no favour?
And if the water in the wells
Collected only beggars songs,
Would all our wishes sink and drown
Until their voice has slowly gone?
What power, then, a wish can hold
For hope to have such tight a grasp
And keep us all so firmly hooked
On wishing wells and stars of glass!
I wish, I wish upon a star
And pray in earnest it comes true,
But God, it seems, has other plans
And cuts, for me, a paper moon.
He rarely ever shows his hand
In ways for us to understand
So if God's reasons outweigh ours
Then who am I to wish on stars?

What a magnificent poem and one that sits deeply for me.
I really like this original idea, a paper moon... a half effort. Not quite what we were expecting... Lovely simple analogy. I think I`m going to think back on this one throughout my day. Such a peaceful and soothing write. Enjoyed Tina.
Hi Max!Ā I am so happy you like this poem. I am always wishing on stars...isn't that what they are there for?Ā Okay, I know they are not really, but anywhere there is a wish to be made whether on a star, or a wishing well, or the candle on a birthday cake, I am right there wishing as hard as I can. Do wishes come true...that is what hope is for. Have a great day my friend and, once again, thank you for taking the time to read āx
Shucks Tina ;). That comment really made my day! Your words feel so refreshing for me. Perhaps I`m just in a foul mood lol. Always a pleasure and a wonderful joy to read and comment on your work. You`re such a fantastic poet. Peace and smiles swimming your way!
Peace and smiles my friend š x
I love the title...an instant hit...Stars Of Glass. This is melancholy, magical and beautiful Tina. Hope is probably the most powerful human emotion next to love and hate and essential to our emotional survival...but I particularly like the way you have phrased the question at the end...Ā
'So if God's reasons outweigh our
Who am I to wish on stars'
because ultimately we control nothing only our own delusions that we do...but to admit this would be to admit defeat.
Keep wishing on those glass stars my friend ....paper moons can be pretty too
Hugs and it's Great to see you back. Please come back Xx
Oh Marion, where would we be without hope? Hope is like an emotional life raft. They say that wishes do come true and I hope ( there we go) and pray ( to all the gods and godesses) that my wishes do come true. I hope ( here we go again) that yours do to.Ā I am so happy that you like this poem. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment in such a beautiful way. I won't leave Cosmo. I will be here šĀ āx
"He rarely ever shows his handĀ
in ways for us to understand "
love this line... So true.. All about faith, trust, and total dependency.
Beautiful.
Yep, that just about sums it up my friend! What a powerful thing hope is, it allows us faith. Thank you so very much for reading and for leaving a fantastic comment...it is very much appreciated āx
A sea of glass! is right on I believe! wow a great write! I think Heavenly Father waits for great faith before you can see His miracles, in fact there is a book entitled "Faith Precedes The Miracle" I thought you didn't like religious poems! this is a great one lol! a least for me! love your writes! and I will buy your book!Ā I "wish" you "well" love it!..............................Jim
Well, Jim, hope and faith are certainly needed for miracles ...you have no argument from me there.Ā Words are powerful things and theĀ written word is the most powerful of all. I did not think of this as a religious write but perhaps you are right, perhaps it is. A calling from my subconscious maybe?Ā Who knows? I don't ever think of myself as religious, but I do believe in a higher power, and I believe that higher power is non denominational... we put those tags on... it is just something I believe. I am always wishing on stars! I believe so much in magick.Ā I am really happy you like this poem and I thank you for reading it and leaving a comment that has got me thinking ā x
This has an eerie feel to it. A hollowness to hope which I can relate to. Sensational wording throughout. Max already picked my favourite part. AbsoluteĀ gem of a write. One I definitely will return to read again and again. Possibly one of my favourite of yours so far.Ā
Fantastic write my cleverĀ poetic friend ā¤ļø
Gwen x
Hi Gwen, so glad you like this poem. Out of all the poems I have ever written this is the one that pretty much sums me up š¤£Ā Hope is such an important thing. SomeoneĀ once told a friend of mine that their hope was a false hope. And then I read somewhere about hope being false. I found this incredible...what nonsense! Hope is hope. There is nothing false about it...hope is the thing that stops us drowning in the waters of life's turbulent ocean. Sometimes we can find ourselves questioning the validity of hope when our wishes never seem to come true. A "why do I bother?" kind of thing. But we bother because hope holds the possibility of a promise when promises are few on the ground. Thank you so much for reading and for leaving your thoughts āx
You are so welcome being me. Yes I had someone tell me hope didnāt exist. Of course it does. It is the very thing that can drive us to keep going. But like you said so perfectly, we can question the strength of our own hope. I loved this piece, because you do self doubt within the moments of despair, which is when hope gets truly tested.Ā
Thanks again for sharing such a beautifully written piece and the reflection ā¤ļøš·
wonderful poemĀ
Greg, thank you! I am happy you like this poem āx
Tina just simply magnificent to read from beginning to its end.
Your poetry shines and sings and equally and beautifully so, really enjoyed reading and rereading for it flows so smoothly and effortlessly.
You have such a wonderful imagination that delivers something so wondrous.
And hope is my favourite virtue, for hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies.
Thank you Tina for writing and sharing your poetry gift, for your poem again proves it to be true.ā¤ļø
