A Statistic

Another morning, another day, no work, so there’s no play

'Actively' seeking work takes up my whole day

One hundred and four applicants is the average I see

No longer a person, I am just a cv

Too many applicants for the jobs that I find

I need a job, I am losing my mind

Enough money to eat but not enough to live

Nothing left over and nothing to give

The start of the week brings a new ray of hope

But with it a string of new bills, I can’t cope

Will I ever find a job or is unemployment my fate

Patience is a virtue, I will just have to wait

Long term unemployed, a stigmatised label

I want to work and I am willing and able

No self esteem, no money to spare

Being unemployed doesn’t mean you don’t care
