Stay As Sweet As You Were

Stay As Sweet As You Were

I decided long ago never to walk in anyone's
shadow said Whitney, the greatest star, to me,
Eva Cassidy sang over the rainbow before she died,
effortlessly, we loved them, when they went we cried.

Ella said that every time you say goodbye, I cry
a little, especially when autumn leaves are falling;
Dionne said that I was just a heartbreaker,
but she is a great lady wherever you take her.

Aretha sang with passion and soul , so whole,
just to be in heaven above us all was her role;
Doris Day rode by on her bicycle, sunshine above,
reminiscing of the past when she had a secret love.

We have dreams of beauty to which we may aspire,
but there is no chance of us joining this heavenly choir.
