Sunburn

Out on the beach with the sand on my feet,
I'm watching the waves in the warm summer heat.
I whip out some sunscreen to slip, slop, and slap,
and lather it up to prevent summer's zap.
No need for a hat that would mess up my hair,
I need instant tanning my skin is too fair.
I'll show my complexion and strut what I've got,
tonight at their party I've got to look hot.
Stretched out on my beach towel I take in the sun,
a couple of hours then I'm sure to be done.
My eyes start to close as I take in the breeze,
dreaming I'm drifting the wide ocean seas.
But soon I awake from my coma like state,
and feel myself burn like a big juicy steak.
To wash off the sand I enjoy one last splash,
I'm still unaware of the brightness I'll flash.
Oblivious to notice the blotches appear,
I wander why everyone looks at me queer.
As soon as I'm home it's the mirror I seize,
that sends me right into an overdrive freeze.
The image I see that stares straight back at me,
is a bright looking lobster but times it by three.
I wanted to look like the queen of the ball,
be out in the crowd looking stunning and all.
How could this happen, God how can it be
I wanted it natural because it comes free.
Now all of those people tonight that I face,
will think, what's this thing that has taken my place.
