Super Bowler Ed McCaffrey

Super Bowler Ed McCaffrey

(circa 1980)

If I could choose 5 of my best 51 years,
age 13 in 1980 would be one.

All four Philly Teams
made it to the championships!
The Eagles, Flyers and 76ers lost,
but under the leadership of Pete Rose,
the Phillies win the World Series.
Mike Schmidt was my third baseman
hero,  gold glover and home run hitter.

I played knee hi baseball
at Hamilton Park in Allentown Pa.
Buddy Mike Brogna played 2nd base,
and Ed McCaffrey played shortstop
and I played 3rd base, the hot corner.
Most kids were 13, and the tallest
was Ed who was aged 12.

My favorite memory is when I hit
a grand slam homerun and
also winning the championship.

Ed was very serious.
I use to say,
“It’s just a game,  have fun!”
He was excellent in baseball,
basketball and football.

His brother Billy played basketball for Duke,
His sister Monica played basketball for Georgetown.
Ed went on to play football at Stanford,
then in the NFL with the
Giants, 49ers, and Broncos.

Today I make $35 k a year and
Ed has three Super Bowl rings;
One with S.F. and two with Denver.
His son Christian will be playing for
the Carolina Panthers n 2017.

I don't always give the best advice.
