Suspended Admiration

Suspended Admiration

Look, asleep on his sheet or down on his knees,
reclining in a hammock, suspended between two trees,
have you done that - trying to get brown like a clown,
if you already are, then you can only get a frown.

They wanted a photo for a mag, someone darker over there,
oh well, my immediate claim to fame was laid bare;
I've been on beaches where all the leaves turned brown,
Mama Cass choked on a sandwich and was sadly taken down.

I remember her swaying in her boots on many a stage,
in the good old days when the Papas were all the rage,
the boys were back in town, waxed, surfboards gleaming,
memories of allĀ  that coral sand and California dreaming.

The light was white, some guy at my car with effrontery,
told him to just get lost - didn't want to spoil my mystery.
