Sweets For My Sweet

Sweets For My Sweet

'Sugar for my honey, your perfect kisses thrill me so,'
that's what sang so good, all those years ago;
'I saw her today, it was a face I knew - I had to
run away and that's when they begin, needles and pinsa.'

'I want to get down on my knees and pray, before . . . . .'
that tingling sensation, probably circulation poor;
mainly 'her' then, now it's maybe likely to be 'him,'
a time warp, as though someone forgot to change the sim.

I was there, they say if you remembered - you weren't,
as we progressed - all the convenient bridges were burnt,
I survived, like Gloria Gaynor, for cover I really dived,
by popular opinion I would be ostracised if I cried.

You were okay, blended in now - invisible so they say,
my protestations fell on deaf ears, it's over come what may.
