Swim

Swim

My heart pounds,
I ask myself "will I win?"
The buzzer sounds,
I dive in.
I kick with all my might,
My lungs burn as I gasp for air,
My head feels light,
I push myself as far as I dare.
The goal is the wall,
I feel like lead,
I want to fall,
I feel like soon I'll be dead.
I hit the wall and the crowd roars,
My body is numb,
And I feel sore,
And I see how far I've come.
The aches and pains,
The long practices,
Through all the physical strain,
With all my sacrifices,
I see that it all was worth it,
I've become a winner,
I can't live with out it,
Because I am a swimmer!
