Colors
The searing pain of a cut or burn,
The taste of peppers and spice,
The sound of shouting across the hall,
The irony scent of fresh blood,
This is anger,
This is Red.
The slight chill of the autumn breeze,
The taste of pumpkin and cranberries,
The sound of crunching leaves beneath your feet,
The delicious scent of cinnamon and raisins,
This is peace,
This is Orange.
The sunny warmth against your face,
The taste of fresh lemonade,
The sound of joyous laughter in the air,
The sweet scent of a sunflower field,
This is happiness,
This is Yellow.
The sick feeling in your chest,
The taste of spoiled milk,
The sound of ringing in your ears,
The scent of cut wet grass,
This is jealousy,
This is Green.
The icy cold seeping in,
The taste of salty tears upon your cheek,
The sound of crashing waves and silent sobs,
The scent of the ocean air,
This is sadness,
This is Blue.
The coziness of a warm sweater,
The taste of chamomile tea,
The sound of rain against the window,
The scent of calming lavender,
This is comfort,
This is Purple.
The warmth of blush spreading across your cheeks,
The taste of chocolate covered strawberries,
The sound of your heart racing,
The scent of bouquet gifts,
This is love,
This is Pink.
The feeling of fog in the air,
The taste of stale black coffee,
The sound of crickets in the night,
The scent right before it rains,
This is emptiness,
This is Black.
The feeling of the softest cotton,
The taste of airy angel cake,
The sound of church bells ringing,
The scent of vanilla,
This is hope,
This is White.

Hello, I just thought I'd explain the poem a little bit here. I saw a video a bit ago where kids explained color to a blind man and it made me think of how I would have explained it. One kid pointed to the other kids shirt and said "His shirt is blue!" to the man and the other kid said "He can't SEE my shirt" and that made me laugh and well how else would a kid explain colors. How would someone who has seen explain something that can't really be felt, tasted, smelled, or heard? Colors are different to everyone and so everyone perceives them differently. For example, I think of black as a color to associate with grief and loneliness, but a friend of mine said that the color they associate with grief and emptiness is white. If you have any blind friends or family or are blind yourself, I hope this poem can help them experience a little of what I can. I hope you enjoyed! Oh, and let me know what you associate certain colors with below and what your favorite colors are!
What an interesting concept! Colours do mean different things to different people. My favourite colour is green. Green because it comes in so many shades. Green because it is fresh and new. Green because it is the colour that brings me peace and hope. Green's a good colour.... To me x
I’m glad you enjoyed it!Â
One of the most incredible poems about the senses and how the senses are used to re-create what colors (feel like, look like, smell like..) I'm so very impressed with the format of the poem. I am going to print it out and read it often. It's fascinating and well crafted!Â
Favorite stanza:Â
I think out of all the colors to describe is the color red, because the feeling of anger is often associated with this color. Excellent work!Â
I wrote a poem called: See The Sound, dedicated to a former professor at The Ohio State University because she was hearing impaired. It's visible on my blogger page:Â

I’m so glad you enjoyed it! You have no idea how happy it makes me that you’ll be printing out my poem to reread. I’ll definitely check out your poem! I tried to find the most common things associated with each color but also things I could associate with. My hope is that this poem will help others.Â
I really enjoyed reading this.
Glad you enjoyed it!Â
