Tales Of a Future
We had just departed Earth,
And journeyed to the stars,
We started mining asteroids,
And owned some flying cars.
Humans started enhancements,
Intergration with our skin,
Pop up screens in corneas,
AI were now our kin.
Synthetic beings on battlegrounds,
Our food not grown on farms,
People doing manual work,
With huge robotic arms.
Fifteen inducted aliens,
Not native to our home,
An interstellar exchange programme,
But not free yet to roam.
Tell me tales of a future,
When things got out of hand,
Where lawlessness runs rampant,
We used to be quite grand.
We missed the memo warnings,
And thought that we were smart,
We imagined a pristine world to live,
But that was just the start.
Instead of finding cures for things,
We constructed deadly disease,
An ever ending counter cure,
We killed the earth and seas.
The people fell in line with rules,
And obeyed the common law,
Written by the ones in charge,
That was our biggest flaw.
I sit here as I write this,
Under this big old dying tree,
And all the while knowing,
The synthetics are coming for me.
