Ted

While walking along the beach one fine morn
I came upon Ted the Iguana staring up at me forlorn
"What's wrong with my little green friend?" I intoned
"My mate is stuck between the rocks." he bemoaned

Off to the rocks between the road and sand we went
And there, struggling to free herself, his mate was spent
As I peeked between the rocks the fearful eyes I saw
Seemed to plead for help as I touched her claw

Some families walking the beach saw our plight
My sad little friend and his soul mates fright
A strong plank was found along the side of the road
And placed under the boulder to bear the heavy load

As four humans put weight on one end of the plank
The huge rock almost moved but alas it then sank
"One more try!" I cried, as we needed just a nudge
Ted jumped on my back and the rock finally budged

Out scampered the little lady and Ted's eyes shined
As he flew off my back and no longer opined
The lesson here learned is timeless and old
Helping a friend when you can is good for your soul
