That Long, Lonesome Road

Been down that road before, my friend,
it’s just a dead-end street.
As heartache lurks around each bend;
the taste—so bittersweet.
Â
Â
Tristful tears douse lovelorn fears;
too soon, the fire dies.
As all your tears throughout the years
were simply based on lies.
Â
Â
A stranger’s face cannot replace
my memories of you.
Your image, I will not erase—
it helps to see me through.
Â
Â
I see you in my dreams at night,
I feel you in my soul.
Without you nothing feels quite right;
without you, I’m not whole.

I really had to dig down deep to dredge up the emotions to pen this poem, Cherie.
This was far more difficult to write than any of my darker poems could ever hope to be.
The pain is still so raw, but writing about it does help.
Thanks so much for your comments, and the PIN as well.
As always, I do appreciate it very much.
