The American Soldier

Taken the road less traveled
He ventures out into the great beyond
Saying goodbye to all the loved ones
He left behind
Choosing to join the military
Was not a easy choice by far
Like his dad and grandpa before him
He felt a calling to serve
Fighting for our freedoms
We hold so dear
Enduring hardships
Fears in the back of his mind
This is the life of the common soldier
Who is fighting to stay alive
So we as a nation
Can enjoy our liberties and pursuit of happiness
As the evening comes to a close
On this beautiful starry night
He dreams of one day
Coming home to kiss his beautiful wife
Until that day approaches
He will be patiently , waiting , And wanting
To get out of this place alive
So that he can begin
A new chapter in his already
Wonderful and grateful life
