The Backwards Taxi

The Backwards Taxi

In July of nineteen ninety-four, we were in Las Vegas on a trip;
Staying at a nice hotel, right on the famous Strip!
We met some family members there, who were on a ten-day tour;
Of Vegas, Utah, and The Grand Canyon, we stayed with them for four!
.
We were meeting at The Flamingo, for dinner and a “Cirque Soleil” show;
Before, they all went shopping, but we wanted the slots to go!
So we took a taxi to the casino, the fare was around six bucks;
The cabbie had no change for a twenty, so “in park”, the cab he stuck!
.
He said, “I’ll be back in just a minute, I’ll go and get some change”;
But no sooner had he left us, did there happen something strange!
The taxi was moving backwards, fortunately, not at too fast a pace;
We jumped out each of our back doors, and to the driver’s seat I raced!
.
For he hadn’t put the cab in park gear, it was really in reverse;
Heading straight back toward the sidewalk, where pedestrians traversed!
I quickly slammed the brakes on, as the driver came running back;
He said, “Thank you my friend, you saved me, from having a heart attack”!
.
.
                                       One day in a cab
                           We were taxied the wrong way
                                 Fare was on the house
