The Barn Owl

Spirit of Athena
goddess astronomer
of the stars and moon,
her heart face flies
the night uponĀ
worldly eyes,
set deep inĀ
black jade,
jewelled starsĀ
and runes.
Her wings bear
the dust of Mars,
to cast shadows
upon the pallid moon.
Wisest amongst gods
and mortal men,
silent phantom, white shadow
that haunts the starlit night,
the rocky crags and woodland fen,
ApolloĀ“s warrior daughter
whose wings sieze
the black night,
behold her eyes!
of dark earth and water,
spectral stargazer
in stillness, in the moonlight.
Talons upon the oak
statuesque god of sight,
falls silent as winter snow
shocked heart upon a cloud,
into a veil of mist
and crimson dawn light.
