The Brave Boys of Normandy

Brave Boys of Normandy
In remembrance
Β We braved the walls of waves in droves
so far across the sea.
As mounting terror now arose,
we'd fight for victory.
Β
Recruits poured in from far and wide;
each knew that God was on their side
to help us quell the Nazi tide
Β
Β so people could live free.
Our LCPs soon hit the shore;
the doors fell open wide,
as hails of bullets rent and tore;
so many good men died.
βGo lads!β was screamed above the squall
βMay God be with you, one and all!β
Yet hundreds more were soon to fall
Β
before we left the sea.
The Nazi guns were dug in deep;
such chaos they would causeβ
as inch by inch, we crawled and creeped
reminded of this clause:
Β
βWherever evil reigns supreme
beneath a fascistβs foul regime
weβll squash all hatred so extremeβ¦
Β
God bless our righteous cause!β
One by one, the batteries fell;
the Huns were on the run.
βHey, boys, letβs send βem back to Hell;
weβve got it, lads, they're done!β
Β As I gazed out across the beach
where bloodied bodies lay in heaps,
I wondered if peace could be reached.
Β
Β When would this war be won?
The war did endβwe went back home,
to shattered hopes and dreams.
Still, I return to red soaked loam,
my soulβs still there, it seems.
At seventeen, I went to war.
Now Hitlerβs Third Reich is no moreβ
I learned to hate, but little more,
Β
still haunted by the screamsβ¦
