The Child's Mind

The Child's Mind

He hit me in the 'smalls' miss, careful playing with balls,
I don't like spag balls and not very keen on vegetables;
I'm packing a ham sandwich, then I'm going to run away,
find my dad so we can kick another ball again so they say.

He kicked the furniture when he realised I was gone,
you're an icon, invincible, someone to be relied upon;
late for school, taking too long, more than I could face,
gave him a whack, hurt my hand, blood all over the place.

Running around the football field, didn't keep up enough,
tried to tell him, survive in this world, got to be so tough;
picked him up from boarding school with a friend, had a laugh,
often wondered when we got home, both we're in the bath.

You didn't pack his lunch, just left me to do everything,
I was lucky, many years later he decided to give me a ring.
