The Closest

The Closest

Your arms around me
as I drink another cup
This is the closest thing
I've ever had to love
Your warmth surrounding,
lights dimming from above
This is the closest thing
I've ever had to love.

I never knew against the odds, I could compete-
I tried to tell you but I couldn't find my speech
you put your hand out and brush against my cheek
The closest to you and to love I've ever seen.

Swept away by the waters of your flood,
I'm flying on the wings of a snow dove,
I walk out the door,
after all's said and done-
This was the closest I've ever gotten
to some kind of love.
