the come and go
lyrics in search of the notes

“the come and go”
found the groove between the strings
found the words between the notes
found the song between the come and go
what she feels from time to time
it’s not a rhyme it’s just a riddle
that’s so very hard to know
found the magic in her smiling
found the story in her telling
found the future in her eyes
what she feels from time to time
it’s not a rhyme it’s just a riddle
is it love or sweet true lies
found the truth inside the listen
found the wake inside the dream
found the no inside the yes
what she feels from time to time
it’s not a rhyme it’s just a riddle
you’ll never know it’s just a guess
lost the groove between the strings
lost the notes between the words
lost the love between the come and go
what she feels from time to time
it’s not a rhyme it’s just a riddle
that’s so very hard to know

well written Linda
Ooooh...I like this A LOT!! I am sure some clever person can put this to a melody but it is fantastic as a stand alone lyric poem. And the lyrics are superb. I love all of the lines in this but I particularly like
I love how you worded this line.
All in all this is a truly beautiful poem that many can relate to...even us girls cos men can be riddled too 😉 x
Thank you. Yes, it works from a female perspective too:)
Hello Mark,
this definitely has a rhythm to it, which I loved. They say everyone has a song in them, and I felt this search for hers in this piece. To comprehend her soul, the inner workings of another. We are all walking riddles I suspect. Dare I say you even have a chorus in this write. Do you play guitar ?
Thanks for sharing. I do enjoy your writings
Gwen :)
Like this nice song lyric :)
I not only found the rhythm here, but also felt the bass line beat which held everything perfectly in place .. Of course, the intentional, but unobtrusive repetition of 'its not a rhyme, it's just a riddle' lends even greater cohesion and works perfectly also ..
These eight well crafted verses not only sound good in my head, but they also look good too on the page you pinned them ..
Now read and re-read more times than I can remember because my left foot seems to have developed a mind of its own and which by virtue of the tapping, I find somewhat disconcerting since I gotta drive to work in a few minutes or so .. All in all, well worth the full works and the Cosmo accolades I am presently permitted to award ..
All the very best of All Good Things and my best wishes of course,
Neville
thank you Neville,
already a confirmed admirer of your poetry, upon learning about how prolific you are as a writer, i wonder how you ever find the time to drive to work:)
I can see I have some catching up to do on your work Mark. I like your lyrics. Music is perhaps the most poweful spiritual force, I wish you well in putting your lines to music but believe me when I say they stand proud and just as powerful written here for all to read x
