The Dance of the Fox

The Dance of the Fox

It prances through the snow hills and dodges behind the pines
The red of a rooster calls the sly of the winters fox
while the blustering winds fly by the scurry of the rabbit shy
tries to hide but bewildered by the smell the sneak of its feet
the two meet though no defense from the chase the game is death
upon the white of the earth bleeds
the red of defeat and they prey
now a meal for six pups in a warm bed they den
await their mothers rescue hungry they cry
the fox and the rabbit play no longer
the dance of the fox wins the stage of winters hunger
