The Dark Heart

It kills me almost sincerely
To know of the syndrome of the dark heart
The pain it causes, the pain it frees is so misleading
That when I close my eyes, I’m thrown back to the start
The dark heart isn’t what you think
It comes in two forms, drugs or a drink
I know many people who have a dark heart
It’s such a shame, that they are so violently doomed and falling apart
To take a drug, or something that you don’t know much about
Can become life threatening, can even cause a drought
To try something, is a choice, to become addicted is a disease
You will either sell your soul, or live forever on your knees
I’m not just saying random things, I’m stating the facts
As I should know, I’ve been around the same tracks
To take a drink, can be so unkind, so unruly
It can become what you live for, so truly
I’ve never been there but I’ve seen what it does to tip a can
It can take the lives of children, women, and men
It’s also something that comes with a price
I’m honestly telling you, these two forms are not nice
Before you want to gain a dark heart
Please be aware of what you are throwing away
Live your life to the fullest, never having to restart
Eventually, the dark heart will consume you and you’ll be saying goodbye
So think twice before you make a choice
Because your choices could become the disease that takes away your voice
