The Day I Said “Hello, Dolly”

The Day I Said “Hello, Dolly”

In the Summer of 1962, when I was eighteen years old;
A Broadway star visited my parents house, what a glorious sight behold!
It was none other than the famous Carol Channing, starring in “Hello Dolly”;
She was appearing in Summer Theatre, on tour for John Kenley!
.
The mastermind behind Kenley Players, brought famous actors to our state;
In the Summers, we’d see stage shows, with Thespians so great!
My parents were “Backing Angels”, they had invested in the tour;
They threw the cast a cocktail party, with her ending up at our front door!
.
There was this renowned actress, having martinis in our living room;
I nervously approached her, her charisma in full bloom!
I said, “Hello Dolly, my name is Larry”, as she took my outstretched hand;
She looked at me and smiled, then said, “What a handsome man”!
.
I felt my ego soaring, for this compliment she had made;
She stayed for a couple hours, then goodbye to her I bade!
I said, “Take care Miss Carol Channing, I’ll be seeing you”;
That night in bed while reflecting, I gave Willy a handshake too!
.
.
                       Sometimes dreams come true
                        When you wish upon a star
                          That lights up your life
