The Devil's Daughter

A child crouches in terror on unholy ground. 
With eyes that are strained, she peers all around. 
Black shadows dance like gypsies trying to flee. 
They disappear quickly behind a withering tree. 
The girl is terrified and hides in her place. 
The wind blows ominously across her pale face. 
She is alone and hungry, no bread to be found. 
Wet and shaking she sits still on the ground. 
The darkness spreads out, all over the sky. 
Quietly, she whimpers and then starts to cry. 
Her mother was weeping as she stole away. 
It seemed there was nothing more to say. 
Behind an old gravestone is where she was left. 
Surrounded by monsters and demons of death. 
Black and dismal is this scene. 
A child's nightmare, the Devil's dream.
