The Elephant In The Room
Nothing you could do, you like milk in your tea,
whether you like it or not, you're where you wish to be;
we wish for many things: freedom away from drudge,
and not with some who often seem to bear a grudge.
We think back - on holidays, events, things not done,
a lady baling out a boat on Lake Victoria, not much fun,
otherwise she might have drowned before reaching shore,
saw the elephants outside, on the other side of the door.
How often we think: ' Never again,' but continue to do,
the same doubtful things - should be better for me and you;
I hear the plebs saying that it's all part of life mon ami,
listen fool - we could have avoided all this impropriety.
We could have pushed the grey lump away to graze,
then it would be our part of life which nothing could faze.

Hello Terry and Anne
I hope you are both keeping well. This is a good write. I think on a global scale we are proving to be a species of human ostriches, as we are very good at putting our heads in the sand. We spend far too much time procrastinating whilst discussing what needs to change and what is damaging the planet. Only to then continue with our bad habits. For me, I felt that reflected here in your sonnet. How often you see a post somewhere of the planet and our damage. Hundreds of likes that go no further than that darn heart that sits on a digital page. We need exercise our awareness, physically.
many thanks for highlighting our flaws
