(Preface: I like the way Marionette writes beautiful, sad things right on the page, so I figured I’d try it. I’m not as good as her. This is about the falsity of love, and forever).Â
The darkness seems the only light
A beacon in the densest night
The greens are all but colored red
The only life in life is dead
There was a song that used to play
But it was silenced in the fray
There was a truth within the lies
But every peace does someday die
We spoke about the length of time
We gathered in the ward of rhyme
We promised love would never fail
But promises are fairy tale.Â

But promises are fairy tale — it's very sharp and direct, I like it.Â
This poem powerfully captures the haunting contrast between hope and despair.
Thank you Nika, you’re sweet. I really appreciate you commenting. It’s nice to meet you. M.Â
Would you actually believe me if I said you have a brilliant talent Matthew? No... you have written some really beautiful works
( in the past life on here and also now). You are able to peer into the abyss and write with incredible soul but not bitterness ( how I would love such a skill) and your words flow and rhyme but above all...
'they ache'. ( thats a compliment) here you have written of dying or dead love... and how can such a thing actually exist? It questions the very perception of romantic love which cannot die can it... surely!! Yet it does... time and time and time again. Universally. You will think I am writing as a friend here and not a critic... not true...
there is nothing here to criticise. You are a writer of outstanding talent... time you believed it. Hugs to you my friend X
Marion, I agree with everything you say here!Â
Marion, you’re the greatest! Omg, to hear such a brilliant, warm, talented writer say that makes me feel wonderful! I’m not sure I’m all you say, but thank you so much! You’re the best! I mean that. Love, Matthew.
Oh Matthew, what can I say? This is simply stunning. Your words tell of such heartbreak and yet not a single hint of bitterness. Just forlorn and terrible disappointment.Â
You are a truly gifted poet, Matthew. No, shut up, you ARE. I love this. Heartbreak and poetry are good bedfellows. This poem is outstanding. It really, really is. You have the ability to use rhyme and meter to the best ever effect. I love your work xx
Omg! Two of the most beautiful, and most talented, women in the world giving me beautiful comments!! I’m in Heaven! You’re fantastic, Tina! Thank you so so much! I have to go read your new poem. Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!! Love, Matthew.
This is your first dark poem? Wow! Crazy good, Matthew. BÂ
Hi Bernadette! No, I used to write dark all the time, then I met someone on here, then she turned out to not be what I thought, now I’m writing some dark again. Thank you for liking! How are you? How’s New Zealand? Is it warm there all the time?(I want that!). Is it like Australia? Thanks for stopping by. M.
Sorry, I’m overly friendly sometimes, but I enjoy meeting people and chatting. Have a great night!Â
