The Ghost

The essence of your
spiritual being,
walks in shadow
upon the cluttered
staircase of my troubled,
tormented mind.
A spectral entity
that drifts through
the light and dark
of my treasured memories
to haunt and disturb
my peace of mind.
To taunt in mischief
the peace and solace in vice
I have struggled to find.
An essence once so dear,
now a false image that beckons
and brings the vulnerability
of loneliness and fear.
I cling to hope
terrified to let go,
for love my heart bleeds
bitter sweet tears,
that scar my soul
lost in the mists of oblivion
in the pain of fading memories
and the hurt that sears.
I have felt the red rose
of your love,
breathed in the sweet
scented blossom,
I have gathered in your beauty,
showered upon me in petals
in the light of dawn.
Now you only come in
dreams of darkness,
a vengeful phantom
to pierce my heart
with scattered thorns.

Hi Marion, hope things are great for you and that you are well. An interesting comment, so glad that you picked up on the broken hearted misery that I was trying to portray. An inspiring comment, thank you! xx
Tony this took me right back to the first year I was widowed. The torment I had in dreams. This is a fabulous write on that sudden loss and grief found when a loved one dies.
"I have felt the red rose

Just beautiful wording and vivid imagery
a delight to read

Hi Gwendoline, hope you are very well. I am sorry to hear of your sudden loss. Thinking of you and wishing you well. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. x
Whoa, excellent! This is a poem that treats the reader to both sides of a coin. There was love once but all that was good once has now turned to pain in this well written poem. Awesome! 👏👏👏 x
