The Grand Depart (John Mc Ginley)

Fingers close down tightly,

as the orange and blue arrives.

A flustered swarm of young'ins

begin to duck and dive.

Once relieved of the dreaded baggage

the rush for seats begin

An awkward nod of acknowledgement

before finally settling in.

The horrible realisation

Of what is yet to come

The fumbling of headphones

And flicking of thumbs

As the border fast approaches

And the wifi comes and goes

A Mutual surrender to the books

Is for the best everyone knows

At the halfway point, there is freedom

In Monaghan no doubt

Just enough time for a quick revival

Before the final bout.

First it is the airport

The lucky ones depart

Closely followed by Drumcondra

And those looking for the dart

Parnell square sees the south siders

Go on their merry ways

Finally DCU,

Before the bus driver can call it a day.
