The Great British Summer

The Great British Summer

Cherry blossom fills the trees
Summer sounds from birds and bees
Sun so hot it cracks the flags
Soothing sunburn with tea bags
The ice cream van turns up the street
Run to get one with bare feet
Dads show off their cooking skills
Smokey scents from charcoal grills
That distinctive barbecue aroma
A dead cert bet you’ll get food coma
Bellies bloat as beers sink in
Empties fill the wheelie bin
Topless men sport tee shirt tans
Red in the face and from elbow to hand
The great British summer
At last it is here
Until the clouds roll back in
And that’s it for the year
