The Great British Summer

Cherry blossom fills the trees
Summer sounds from birds and bees
Sun so hot it cracks the flagsÂ
Soothing sunburn with tea bagsÂ
The ice cream van turns up the street
Run to get one with bare feet
Dads show off their cooking skills
Smokey scents from charcoal grillsÂ
That distinctive barbecue aromaÂ
A dead cert bet you’ll get food comaÂ
Bellies bloat as beers sink in
Empties fill the wheelie bin
Topless men sport tee shirt tansÂ
Red in the face and from elbow to handÂ
The great British summerÂ
At last it is here
Until the clouds roll back inÂ
And that’s it for the year
