The Internationalist

I would like to meet the Queen one day,
Though it's not on my bucket list.
I'm more interested in establishing
If there's anything I've missed.
Brought up to believe the powers that be act in the interest of us all,
In mid life now, I wonder how
They really have the gall.
Narcissistic, self promotion abounds at every turn,
These elected, so called representatives...
When will they ever learn?

Hard then to show loyalty to country, flag or crown.
Such idealism usually fails,
They'll always let us down.
National institutions we once held in such esteem
Now seem corrupt if not derided,
Belief in country, right or wrong
At best sadly misguided.

Nations and institutions are like an un-swept room,
We have not found a cleaner yet
And we have forgotten we own the broom.
So when I finally meet the Queen, to her I will insist
We should aim for change and re-arrange,
Become Internationalist.
