The King And The Swordsman (The Conclusion)

The King And The Swordsman (The Conclusion)

The Swordsman buried his long dear wife, under the big old tree,
Tears streamed down his face "I wish you were here with me",
The Crossbowman put his arm around his brother, "Her death was just not right,
We will kill this King, so rest well for tomorrow be prepared to fight".

The brothers waited at the forest edge, early in the morning the next day,
The Crossbowman saw something shine "I think they're on their way",
Marching down toward them, were twenty fully armoured men,
They split ranks still in formation together, now two lots of ten.

Climbing high up in the tree, the Crossbowman got settled then took aim,
The Swordsman stayed on the ground, and approached the marching men, so game,
He drew both swords and limbered up, this game will soon be played,
Today he has his special armour on, the one his wife had made.

About two hundred metres away from the trees, the Swordsman stopped and waited,
Had of been someone else in the Swordsman's shoes, their confidence would have been deflated,
There were no words from the armoured men, as they too stopped at the ready,
The Crossbowman up high in the trees, held statue still at the ready.

The Swordsman touched his sword hilt on his helmet "Let's Dance" is all he said,
That gesture by the Swordsman's hilt, was a gesture for Crossbowman instead,
And before it was noticed two arrow bolts were inbound, the Swordsman heard the arrows fly,
All of a sudden the Swordsman gained pace and let out a disturbing battle cry.

Dodging big heavy swords the Swordsman lunged in, slicing and hacking his way through,
The armoured men were in disarray seeing men drop with arrow wounds too,
The Swordsman sliced open a stomach through armour, the guts spilt out on the ground,
They dropped at his feet which he kicked whilst swinging, making a squelching sound.

Backhand swing there and a thrust here, men were falling all around dead,
A mighty side slice to the King's Guard in front, and off went sailing his head,
The Crossbowman was picking them off, being careful not to hit his brother,
His location still safe he hadn't been seen, he sat on his perch undiscovered.

A King's Guard broke through to the Swordsman, his sword stopped most of the blow,
Blood trickled from his flank nothing too bad, he signalled his brother to go,
The Swordsman rammed his sword through one man's heart, the other sword removed his arm,
He pulled them both out and jumped back a bit, removing himself from more harm.

Just as he did that, the five men remaining King's Guard, ran back toward the Keep,
The Swordsman lined up and then let fly with his sleeve knives which dug in deep,
The Swordsman started heading toward the Castle, there he saw who was watching, the King,
He was looking down from the battlements, the Swordsman clasped his wife's ring.

The King could see for miles around, except to the left where there were trees,
The Swordsman still approached the moat, it was too late to stop for peace,
"Dear brother please surrender" the King said to the Swordsman, as archers appeared around the walls,
You know I have a small garrison here, due to my men being off at the war".

"I am sorry to hear of your wife, you gave me no choice but to attack,
I wish that things had turned out different, I wish I could take it back",
The Swordsman stared straight at the King, he hadn't played all his cards yet,
In a last act of defiance, the Swordsman touched his sword hilt on his helmet.

The King heard a click far off to the left, and turned his head around to check,
At high velocity the arrow bolt flew, which hit him solid into his neck,
The King was trying to draw breath, and just when he thought he was dead,
A second arrow bolt came flying, which struck the King deep in the head.

What do the archer's do on the wall, do they make revenge of the King just slain?
What will happen to our two brothers, will arrows fall down on them like rain?
Will they go back to a peaceful life, and only their farm they will defend?
I'll leave that up to you dear reader, only you know how this one ends.
