THE LADDER OF SUCCESS

On the first rung I saw who I wanted to be,
after much deliberation, I realized it was me,
the former things had passed away, discarded quietly,
but achieving serenity was still a mystery.

Halfway up, I could see my past as you would,
which had it's rewards but not particularly good,
If I could have my time again, I'd keep the pain,
to remind me that another choice would be the same.

At the top, Leonardo's curly beard came in to view,
that was Da Vinci, not De Caprio, in the queue,
he reminded me of greatness, the price you had to pay,
to achieve a semblance, a morsel, on your day.

Thinking back, I would not look down at the sights,
because I may remember that I had a fear of heights.
