The lady in the Mirror

The lady in the Mirror

Her voice was cracked, she hadn’t spoken for a while,
β€œI know her, who can that be?”
β€œI remember the hair, the beautiful smile,
β€œah... yes, that used to be me”

As her reflection returned her gaze
She began to see someone much younger,
And her mind drifted back through the haze
To a young woman so much stronger

It looked like her, but how old now?
She Dare not even guess her age,
β€œI feel the years and the time somehow”
β€œBut it all feels like the same page”

She felt the love of a child squeezing her hand
β€œShe was ours, and we love her so much”
A comb through her hair, brought her back to now,
As she felt the carers touch

She frowned at the carer, who’s eyes filled with tears
And wondered why this should be,
β€œDon’t cry my dear, ...oh isn’t this strange?”
β€œYou look a little like me.”

Being Me

Awwww....it is so sad when the years consume and the mind fails. Excellent writing, John. I "felt" this...it brought tears to my eyes x

Aw such a moving touching poem as you write on the old woman's behalf as she recalls her youth so imaginatively. Awesome poetic reflections. Kudos!!!
