Leaving Old Obsessions to Rest

He logged off the laptop
Meaning to take a break
From looking at a screen
Only to find himself
Automatically checking His phone.

How many people
Had "liked" what he had
To say?
This was a dopamine
Fix of course

And just lately he
Had become something
Of a slave

To the relentless demands
Of his obsessive mind
And he wished to put
Some things to rest.

He looked out of the window
At the church spire and trees
He did not know if he
Believed in God or not
And was not sure it mattered
Either way.

Life could be tough but...
He had moved on from blasphemy
And was prepared to take
Responsibility for his own life,

With or without assistance
From God.
And this meant in part
Letting go and-
For his sake and others-
Putting some old obsessions
To rest.

Wow MICHAEL!!.... you're struggling with something seriously profound here....... you've drawn it out BEAUTIFULLY too....allowing the questions to develop.... and the dilemma itself to come to a head with introduction of God and the church toward the end!!,,,, absolutely brilliant poetic devices in play here!!...
