The Last Soldier

The Last Soldier

Muddy water fills the trenches
Hiding tears from my eyes
Putting on a brave face
Becomes harder to disguise
A small army stands around me
They say they have my back
But in the trenches it's so lonely
When fighting an attack
It's safe down in the bunker
With a pistol in my hand
Building walls around me
To escape the no mans land
Holes appear in the sand bags
From gun shots all around
Leaving me exposed again
As they crumble to the ground
It's so lonely in the trenches
Silence echoes in the air
For when the war is over
I'm the last soldier down there
