The Mermaid

The Mermaid

The calling shell
casts its spell
upon the lonely mariner
and shipwrecked souls,
as she casts her pebble runes
across the sand,
she shimmers in her dress,
a bright lure of starlight silver
and rainbow gold over sea and land.

She rises from unreachable depths
the blue ocean in her eyes,
her floating hair of ringlets and curls
enchanting in her ropes of pearls.
With beloved mysterious starfish
her jewel of the deep,
gentle nomad of sea and sand
beautiful in peace.

Upon graceful ripples in magical pools
wandering spirits of the sea,
upon the ancient seahorse
to ride the rhythm of the moon tide waves,
until the red light of dawn
wild and free.

I am very fond of mermaids and this does great service to
the lovely creatures. The description is great imagery and the
way the poem is fluid and easy.. is great. The read is quite good and I
enjoyed it.Ā

Hi Dagnis, hope you are very well. I“m very fond of mermaids too and felt compelled to write this after spending much time on the coast so far this summer. Any thoughts on the origins of mermaids? It would be great to know your  opinions. So glad to read your lovely comments and thrilled that you enjoyed reading it. Thank you. Looking forward to reading more of your poems. Take care.

Being Me

Now how did I miss this stunning piece? It is a beautiful narrative poem (my absolute favourite sort) and I am so sorry that I have not read it until now...this one slipped through the net...like mermaids do. Well, they must do as no one ever caught one .... yet! Awesome write, Tony, and pinned x
