The Mirror

Mother always told me,
You can’t ever love anyone,
Until you love yourself
The older I seem to get the more that rings true.

You look in the mirror
With that absent look upon your face
I say, “Hey pretty girl, there’s nothing you can change.”
As the tears fall like rain on a concrete plane
You don’t have to feel this way.

The voices in your head share just one thing
What you see isn’t reality
You can’t compare a finished product to a work in progress
People around you make you feel just one thing
We’ll be out of here soon and this will pass.

You look in the mirror
With that absent look upon your face
I say, “Hey pretty girl, there’s nothing you can change.”
As the tears fall like rain on a concrete plane
You don’t have to feel this way.
