The Red Kite

Kindled embers ignite the sky
cast into the wind,
a fiery star of wildfire flight
over the rolling hills
to gracefully glide.
To twist and turn
and chase the light,
forked lightning tail
from earth to sky,
steers and strikes
the hunting devil´s eye.
Wings of amber fire
that scorch the sky,
a winged emperor
crowned in grey and white.
Through lightning flash
and thunderous roar,
to mock the vulture´s
pale, dull eye and clutching claw,
to wheel around the sun,
glide and soar.
Sailing the wind
bright feathers on the breeze,
over the mountain crags
and across the wild seas.
