Poem -

The seal of saint Ives

We saw a seal at saint Ives
He has the biggest blackest eyes
He lives among the boats in the harbour
And is fed by a fisherman called Arthur

We wondered
While his fellow seals played in the waves
Why in the company of men
He chose to spend his days

Why does he sunbathe
Close to us upon the sand
He almost holds a flipper out
To shake your hand

What brings Ā our friendly seal
So close to human shores
What bought him to the safety
Of the mighty harbour walls

But he seems happy with his life
Among Ā all the fishing boats
And he's friends with all the men
In bright florescent coats

It will always be a mystery
And we have given him a name
Because holidays without him
Just wouldn't Ā be the same
Ā
