THE SECRET NEED

Have you ever been truly noticed
Been made to feel valued in some way
Or felt the warmth of someone's kindness
When they took an interest, in what you had to say
It's being seen, being heard, it's being wanted

Maybe for the first time in your life
You're made to feel alive and real
I didn't know if it was the kindness
Or the hug, I felt in someone's smile
I just knew I somehow mattered
Even if it was for a little while
Some people have the awareness
Of your lost child, still hiding out
Still feeling unloved, forgotten
Still feeling uncared about
It's not so much the attention
It's the need, the want for more
The feeling of connectedness
That you never felt before
I didn't know if it was the kindness
Or the hug in someone's smile
I just wanted to hold unto that feeling
And keep it for a while
