The Statue Of David

The Statue Of David

I always thought that the Statue Of David was
in the Uffizi gallery in Florence but actually
it's in the Dell'Academia, a stunning 5 metres tall,
to look up at the statue is really quite spiritual.

Every detail is beautifully crafted with love,
Michaelangelo was given power from heaven above;
a jealous artist managed to break one of the toes,
it was sacrilege to damage such a beautiful pose.

Originnally intended to be positioned on the cathedral roof,
it's resting place turned out to be somewhere less aloof,
the feet were enlarged in order to give support,
Leonardo's disapproving mutterings came to nought.

David defeated Goliath, no matter that he was so tall,
and when it came to beauty, he'll always be above us all.
