The Street Medicine

Tranq is the drug that is consuming
souls on the streets of NYC and Philly
People are using it to escape the horrors
and the trauma of their existence
But it eats away at their flesh
Creating red craters across their skin
As it dulls their mind
Turning them into statues
People watch and then record
Posting it to social media
Without a second thought
Suffering drug addicts are human as well
No one should be recorded at their worst moment.
As needles pile up
And dead bodies join them.
The dealers walk free with no consequence
Where is the justice?
For those who have died from these drugs
People try to remedy their pain with medication.
But end up with addictions
Looking at these criminals handing it to them
As if they were their physicians
Legislation needs to change,
In order to stop people being exploited
By these snake oil salesmen.

It really is but if we talk about it, we can change it.

K.G. Munro thank you for writing about today's truths and telling how it evidently is out there day after day and body after body.
Alice Miller once said:-

What is addiction, really? It is a sign, a signal, a symptom of distress.
It is a language that tells us about a plight that must be understood.

Wise words, like your well displayed and informative poem, for all if they choose to,  to take stock and reflect on.
Thanks again and for sharing an impassioned write.

Thank you so much :) I believe that if we cover real issues in our creative work we can reflect a more realistic image of the world as well address the problems.
