The Sun Smiles Despite It All

The Sun Smiles Despite It All

The sun whisked its long lashes
Smiling down upon us
Crowds, shouts, a standstill train in the drought
Its eye expanded so brilliantly
Watching what the fuss is all about

A pair of broken glasses
Found among the splattered guts
Of a girl not only dead
But brutally mauled
Windows smeared and tracks red
And on her phone, a missed call

The sun smiles despite it all
