The Sun's Parting Gift

The Sun's Parting Gift

Before it got dark and before all the stars,
I looked up at the sky and saw a slice of the moon
And I marvelled at how precise it was cut β€”
Laser sharp in Heaven's lagoon.

And I saw the birds fly, the crows to their roost,
Those little black scraps flying up and away
'Neath indigo clouds in a vast sea of pink β€”
The sun's parting gift to the day.

Stunning...just utterly stunning. That simple beautiful quiet and magical moment we have all no doubt experienced Tina and I don't think I have ever read a more perfect and enchanting description.Β
A truly gorgeous write...and a keeper...to read again and again.Β  πŸ’–πŸ’–

Oh MarionΒ  it really was a snap shot in time. I popped out onto my balcony and looked up, saw the moon and the birds and the clouds in the sky. I was trying to decide what colour the clouds wereΒ  when I knew I had a poem in it. So I went back inside and wrote it. I don't think it came out too bad. So I put it on my website and then put it on here... and fb and Instagram.

Thankyou so much for your kind words and support it means a lot. I'm really glad you like itΒ  xx

Those moments of inspiration are the heart of poetry Tina and I'm so glad you posted...you do write the most lovely poetry. Have you started a poetry site then? And if so can I join xx

I do have another poetry website... it is possible to have guest poets there I believe. I'm not entirely sure as it wasn't me who built the site ... I will have a word and see what can be done xx

Ah don't worry love I'm not really up to engaging much anyway...cosmo.is just a place of comfort for me I never go on POP or any of the other poetry sites I'm a member of and don'tΒ  engage on social media and more either so it would be a waste of time...I'd never post anyway...I might have made an exception if you'd started your own poetry site that's all. Thanks Tina xx

Oh my! Brilliant Tina just bloody brilliant! Just eight lines but eight lines that are indelible poetic ink and really hit home.
A joy to read from beginning to end and your closing line, with its spark is simply to die for.
Thank you Tina for writing and sharing something more than simply special, but one from your heart and it's a big heart.
And Jim's comment I clarion and champion.
Shaun. x.

Shaun! What can I say? Thank you, thank you, thank you!! What a lovely and generous comment! Oh, I am more than happy that you like this little poem. It came tumbling into my mind when I saw the moon and pink sky and the birds and the clouds. I saw it all, came indoors and tapped out these lines. Thankyou again xx

Hello Tina, what can I add that hasn’t been said already. This truly is a gem of a write. You sink the reader into a captivating moment, that only nature and your pen can provide. You are truly gifted. Your artistic eye has painted the moment stunningly with the use of the written word. A breathtaking experience, captured perfectly πŸ’—πŸ˜ŠxΒ

Hi Gwen... I went out onto the balcony and noticed the moon ...how perfect it was. And I noticed the pink sky with clouds of a curious colour. Some, Jackdaws ( I believe) flew past me and in those couple of minutes I knew I had a poem β€” so I went indoors and wrote it.Β

Thankyou for taking the time to pop over to my page and reading. A huge thankyou, also, for the beautiful comments you left here xx

I always admire that first dragon's nail of a newly born moon in the late afternoon, with the rooks flying to their nests back in the park - this piece made me think you live around the corner watching the same bit of Brabant (The Netherlands). Thank you for reminding meπŸ™πŸ‡³πŸ‡±

Hi John...you have mentioned something very important! It doesn't matter where you are in the world, what you are going through, happy or sad β€” the moon is a constant to us all. The moon in all its phases. Thankyou so much for reading and leaving a lovely thought provoking comment x

At your service - a poet who shares her thoughts derserves a poet's answer - Moon governs more of our lives than Sun, to a symbolist's mindΒ πŸŒ’
