The Survivor

He whispered words I longed to hear,
And echoed all my dreams,
I felt so strong and powerful,
With the love he gave to me. 

At last, my soul would be so safe,
He understood it all,
If only I had known back then, 
The writing on the wall. 

It started out so quietly,
A little here and there, 
Stabbing words in velvet,
Said without a care. 

As time went on, I understood,
No gentle love I had,
If I did not escape the darkness,
It would surely send me mad. 

But when I stopped to question,
He made me think again, 
It's your fault that I do all this,
You’re the one that causes pain. 

I doubted all my actions,
And what I thought was true, 
For he made me so uncertain,
Of the life I thought I knew. 

Until the day, my Warriors,
The strength of centuries past,
Rose up and gave me courage,
To leave the dark, at last. 

And as the minutes passed me by, 
Each one a silent tick,
The reality came back to me,
That he's the one that's sick. 

To heal will take my courage,
But it is the only way to be, 
For if I'd stayed, he would have gone, 
Straight to Hell, with me
