The Ungracious

My nephew said that churchgoers were hypocrites,
singing one thing and doing the opposite, in bits
of nothingness as tho' they were following orders,
disingenuous, insincere, clinging to unsustainable borders.
Of course, he was a fool - unappreciative of God's gifts,
should have been more concerned with how the spirit lifts;
my parents were members of an obscure religious sect,
you need something, with this life you have to connect.
It gets you through, without - you won't know what to do,
what does it take to stop you in your tracks, realize you
need more than yourself, to face all of the adversity,
because just to think you can do it alone would be a pity.
They'll ask you 'why,' and you won't be able to tell them,
who's ''they' and 'them,' it's too late - you won't be coming again.

We all seem to have someone like this in our lives. I went through this stage years ago. At 19 years old I seperated from the church I was raised in. For a year in Vietnam I prayed sometimes then at 34 I attended a church service and 6 months later I joined. I know what I missed but I can't tell my son or others. This was so well written. Thank you Randall.
