The Unopened Heart
Once mounted...
then - left to be discarded.
Once neglected...
then - finally (ultimately) rejected.
Once tried...
and found distasteful.
So dissatisfied...
that's - disgraceful.
So simply left behind...
that's just wasteful.
Once used...
until all was gone
When - with nothing left to take,
'Twas time to travel on.
Replaced by someone new...
no longer needed as a placeholder.
Never really wanted, anyway.
So in time, just thrown away.
Once finally found: that one true-love...
then no warning calls - death takes her prize
yes, death takes her prize.
SURPRISE?
Not to her.
Could there be any more fitting ending?
And to her knees she falls and cries...
'Oh where is mine?
"where is my one happy ending?'
How could one life be nothing more than a series of tragic endings?
Only beginnings -
interupted by depleted, false and lost opportunities?
Sorrow, taunting, pain, emptiness...
Mockery, betrayal, deep loneliness...
Some lives move from tragedy to death...
with little joy in between.
The hearts that have the most to give...
are left unseen;
never opened.
Nothing could be more tragic than this.
