Poem -

There is a key

All my life, I've had a gate around my heart.
Many have climbed the walls and tampered with my heart.
Because it's easier to vault over than to retrieve the key.
After committing property damage, scared little boys flee.
Back over the gate without a second thought.
Then onto the next, graffiti over graffiti atop my heart.
But she keeps letting them back in, my heart that is.
Time after time, the little boys come crawling.
Some of them come more than once.
Some come for awhile.
Some come for a day.
One day, someone will come.
They will see where the little boys climbed over the fence, how easy it would be to do the same...
But instead, they will knock on the gate.
They will earn their spot within the fences.
They will earn the key and cherish it.
They will clean the graffiti from the walls of my heart and rebuild the place within the fence.
They will be the one who waited.
The one who cared.
The one.
