THERE IS A LAND
There is a land that I am seeking
as I ride life's tempest train,
A gentle land of exquisite beauty,
A land untouched by grief or pain.
In these stormy times of trouble
where the world I live seems torn apart
by an unremitting tide of evil
so dark, so strong, it stuns my heart
'til now I've become a weary traveler,
tossed to and fro along my way,
and yet I cast my eyes out to a new horizon
and to the humble hope for a brighter day.
Trapped within a world of darkness
with the fate of man in sharp decline,
my erstwhile dream is wrapped up in finding
a place of rest to claim as mine.
My intrepid journey moves me forward
from deepest valley to mountaintop,
and then as I approach another station
it is here with curious fascination that I choose to make my stop.
While my earnest eyes explore the setting
I feel moved by a portentous power,
I am buoyed with a growing sense of anticipation
knowing this could be my finest hour.
Within my mind I can envision
images that fill my soul with awe,
I find repose in this dreamlike silence
that comes with every breath I draw.
I walk down along a flowered pathway
adorned with colors bright and fair,
The resplendent touch of nature's brush
paints a landscape beyond compare.
On down the winding path I travel,
and I am bathed in streams of sparkling light,
until up ahead I see a clearing
and as I am nearing I behold a splendid sight.
Gathered here are countless others
who yearn, as I, for the simplicity
of a peaceful world where we rediscover
the joy of kindness, love, and dignity.
The festive crowd turns to greet me
with beaming smiles cast on their face,
I am charmed to be swept into welcoming arms
and feel the warmth of convivial grace.
Oh, the grandeur of this moment!
Praise the lovely dulcet sound
of the ascending voice of celebration
and exultation for what I've found.
All as One we come together
united in our common goal:
The renewal of the daunted spirit
among this grand confluence of young and old.
How wonderful this magic moment,
How incredible the sight divine,
How rewarding has been my journey
down this long and winding road of time.
This is the hope that now sustains me
and makes me wish for finer things:
A destiny spent in eternal glory
allows these aging eyes to dream.
While life at times may be a struggle,
beset with trial and uncertainty,
there awaits a blessed sanctuary
if we search with alacrity.
There is a land that I am seeking
and as my journey nears its end
I find contentment in the knowledge
that when I stop, I'll start again.

Hey DAVID!!...... this a very compelling narrative that shines a VERY creative light on man's struggle and grace.......the idea that life doesn't end at death but finds a new beginning is a universally accepted hypothesis........ you have a great sense of rhythm and timing...... and it helps the flow of the whole!!.......ALL STARS!!.... well conceived and BEAUTIFULLY delivered !!........and .......in case no one has said so........ WELCOME to COSMO!!....... LOVE and ROCKETS!!......T xo ?✴❤
ha ha Gosh, Tony, if I could manage to garner more nice comments like that with respect to my poetic efforts then I would definitely spend more time cranking out verse. Most of my efforts are focused on country music song lyrics, but, my biggest, most adventurous dream is to write nice, pleasing poetry on occasion, so, your comments are quite meaningful to me. After I wrote this rather serious poem last year I stored it away, and when I joined Cosmo (no, not that women's magazine) I thought this would be a good time to bring it out of the cobwebs. And, your interpretation of the poem is EXACTLY what I was trying to convey, so, I thank you for saying such nice things. I've been on a number of discussion sights where it's perfectly acceptable to sling nasty, slimy barbs at other members---the more degrading the better---so for me it's tremendously refreshing to stumble upon a site where people actually encourage others in their grammatical passions. And, yes, I have received a few greetings from other members and feel right at home. Thanks again for the shout out and I hope to holler at you again soon.

With such pleasure I shall pin this poem and read aloud in my final breath knowing that my light, dying as it is allows the sun to rise.
Thank you for rejuvenating your land.
