They’re only little once

Big brown eyes look up at me,
It’s like I’m the only one he sees.
Four years old, eyes wide with wonder,
I’m his whole world, his Mommy, above any other.
Momma why? Momma what’s that, and how does it work?
He asks a million questions when he already knows,
Showcasing the mischievous smirk!
My little boy made of snips, snails and puppy dog tails,
Crayon artwork on the walls, muddy hands and footprint trails.
A ball of energy running circles around me,
New projects and interests, new fits and pleads.
His beautiful imagination bringing new adventures to each new day,
I wonder what he pretends to be when deep in his world of play.
“Mommy I’m a kitty- pet me please”
Oops running too fast- he skins his knees!
“Mommy you be this and I’ll be that,”
“Catch me if you can, I’ve hid your keys!”
Toys lead me like a breadcrumb trail to my busy little bee,
Sweet as honey he asks, “Mommy, will you please play with me?”
My heart melts as I wholeheartedly oblige into MY whole worlds innocent smiling eyes,
No excuses from this Mommy tonight, for the past has proven how fast time flies.
